Buzz’s
Spring Creek Fishing Report – May 5, 2008
Rainbows are still spawning in the Creeks. Please be careful while wading
not to step anywhere near a redd. Leave the spawners alone and let them get
their job done. If you are not sure what a redd looks like, please stop by
the shop and we will be happy to show you.
The
Spring Creeks are providing some pretty good dry fly fishing with Midges,
Baetis and Caddis bringing up fish. If you get
a calm day you will have rising fish. If the wind blows you will probably be
nymphing.
The Midge
hatches have been fair to good and are occurring in the mornings and
sometimes again in the afternoons. My favorite Midge patterns have been: our
Captive Midge, a Harrop CDC Hanging Midge, a Buzz's CDC Midge or a Harrop
Gray Adult Midge all in sizes 20 to 22. A great pattern to trail off any of
these is Gary's Midge Pupa, a WD-40, a Miracle Nymph or a Black Beauty all
in sizes 18 to 22.
The
Spring Baetis hatches are sparse to fair, with the better hatches on
calm cloudy days. Look for them in the late mornings through the mid
afternoon. My favorite patterns are a CDC Comparadun, a CDC Baetis Emerger,
a Max’s Baetis Dun, A Harrop Gray Olive Dun and a Harrop Gray Olive Emerger
all in 18or 20.
On warmer
afternoons there have been some decent Caddis hatches near the
riffle areas. Also the Mother’s Day Caddis are hatching on the
River and many of those find there way to the Creeks. My favorite patterns
have been a Harrop Olive Henry’s Fork Caddis, an Olive Elk Hair Caddis and a
Gary’s Caddis, all in a size 18.
The Nymph
fishing has been good. There are various Mayfly nymphs available to the fish
along with Midge Larva and Pupa, Scuds, Sow Bugs and Caddis Larva and Pupa.
Midge Larva and Midge Pupa patterns, Sawyer Pheasant Tails, Scuds, Sow Bugs,
Caddis Larva and Caddis Pupa and WD-40's have all been very effective.
